247°F Review.

While checking out one of the local Redbox kiosks in the area, I stumbled upon 247°F. Immediately thinking it was one of the lame direct-to-video films they throw into the horror category, I kept looking through the films. I was disappointed at the lack of anything that looked like it was worth watching so I started from the beginning of the list and soon found myself looking at 247°F. Not catching Scout Taylor Compton's name on the artwork the first time, I slightly fan-girled when I saw she was in the film. After reading the plot, I decided I was going to get the film. Long story short, the Redbox machine wouldn't work and I walked away empty handed. Luckily, I found a copy of the film today for a reasonable $10.00 and decided to give it a chance.

The film centers on a group of friends who travel to a lakeside cabin in the middle of nowhere to relax for the weekend. After they're settled, they decide to go into the cabin's sauna and hang out for a bit. The friends soon find themselves trapped in the sauna when a ladder falls against the door. With their only chance of getting out being at a local party, the group soon finds themselves desperate to find a way out before its too late.

The biggest flaw with this movie is the lack of proper characterization. There was an event that led to post-traumatic something to one o the characters and that plays a huge role in the film, yet the writers never touched base on the event too well. In fact, the only idea of this is during the opening credits. The other characters are ridiculously boring and really don't have an impact on the viewer and I personally believe that's what makes a movie good.

I also found myself losing interest where I should've been at the edge of my seat. The filmmakers failed to bring any suspense which is what I had wanted to experience most while watching the film.

Not all was bad, though. The cast did very well with what they were given. Throughout the stages of their entrapment, the actors manage to pull off everything they were supposed to, especially towards the end. In fact, I felt guilty for drinking while watching these people dying for a drink (literally).

Was the movie bad? No, but it wasn't the best. As I look at other trapped-in-a-small-place-at-risk-of-dying films (Frozen, Devil, and Elevator to name a few), I find myself wishing this one could've been as good as them. The film is still worth a watch, but you're better of renting it.

There's Something Out Of The Water: Sand Sharks Review

Just when you thought you were safe out of the water.. a prehistoric sand shark unleashes it's fury onto unsuspecting half-naked beach-goers.

When coming onto a film called Sand Sharks, it's pretty obvious that you're either going to love it, or hate it, depending on how you view B-movies. Being a fan of cheesy creature features, I didn't expect anything but to love this film, and I did.

The film opens with two 20-somethings riding dirt bikes in a desert-looking place who soon find themselves falling victim to, well, a sand shark. One of the victims decapitated heads is discovered by what appears to be the only two cops on the small island of White Sand, John Stone (Eric Scott Woods), and his daughter Brenda (Vanessa Evigan). The two ultimately decide it was indeed a shark attack, but because of how far the decapitated head was from the shore makes them question how. Fast forward about 20 minutes later, and the two decide to call in Dr. Sandy Powers (Brooke Hogan), a scientist who specifies in sharks.

Because of the lack of tourists on White Sand island, the town's mayor's son, Jimmy (Corin Nemec), who happens to be Brenda's ex-love interest, decides to throw a beach party in hopes that it would revitalize the island.

A few shark attacks later, John, Brenda, and Sandy try to prevent the party in fear of more shark attacks, but Jimmy of course ignores their warning, which of course leads to the death of many bad-acting partying college students.

Throw in some decent low-budget effects, lame CGI sharks, ridiculous dialogue, and some B-list actors, and what you get is this beautiful gem, otherwise known as Sand Sharks.

I was actually surprised at how good the movie was, to be honest. Watching this film, I didn't expect much more than another campy B-movie flick, but this movie seemed to deliver a little bit more than most SyFy-esque films.

The characters were very B-movie. You've got the cop with a troubled past, the daughter who isn't over her ex, her heartless ex, and the scientist who is just as clueless as everyone else. To my surprise, these actors weren't too bad for the most part. Yeah, they all had their moments, but how else could you react to a CGI sand shark attacking you?

The effects weren't the best I've ever seen, but they definitely weren't the worst, especially for a B-movie, but, how realistic can you get with a low-budget, anyway? The shark was probably the most unrealistic thing about the effects, which is to be expected anyway, and the bright red blood, of course.

Overall, you're going to either love this film or you're going to hate it, that all depends on your tolerance for these types of movies. If you're looking to have a good time with a few friends, then this is your movie, but, if you're looking for something serious, you're better off checking out something else.

Sand Sharks is set to premier this September on the SyFy channel, but if you can't wait that long, pre-order it on Amazon here.

MTV Developing Scream-based TV Series?!

Wait, what?! According to the scream-trilogy site, MTV is developing a new Scream TV series? I'm sorry, but I do NOT approve of this unless it has continuity of the first four films, including having the main three characters returning for atleast some episodes.

An official statement about the project reads

The “Scream” franchise returned with a vengeance in 2011 when “Scream 4″ hit theaters over a decade after the third installment was released. Though it didn’t have the box office success of the original film, “Scream 4″ proved that there was still an audience interested in the fictional small town of Woodsboro.
As TVLine was first to report, MTV is now developing a television series based on the films. The network has seen some success with its scripted drama “Teen Wolf,” and a “Scream” series could serve as a natural companion to the teen-driven scare fare.
The project will be produced by former MTV executives Tony DiSanto and Liz Gateley, and they’re currently looking for a writer to helm the pilot.
This weekend, Kevin Williamson — the series creator — shared that he was uncertain about the future of the “Scream” franchise, which is owned by The Weinstein Co. Williamson is busy with his new FOX series “The Following” and his continued work on The CW’s “Vampire Diaries,” and has not been involved in the project’s development.
It’s unknown whether Wes Craven, who directed all four installments, will have input in the MTV series.

As much as I'd love to see a continuation of the Scream series, I'd rather see a Scream 5 as opposed to a trashy, boring, MTV sitcom that lame, pre-teen fans will fall in love with without ever seeing the original trilogy, or knowing that they existed.

End of story.

The Piranha 3DD Website Has Launched!

Finally! Dimensions has updated their site with more than just the "coming soon" bit we've seen for the past few weeks! The website has an "adult pool 17+" section which requires Facebook to get into, but I'm assuming that just shows you the Red Band trailer. Along with that is some stills, cast and crew, and more. Check it out for yourself here!

Four New Stills of Aimee Teegarden in Scream 4?

I'm a tad bit confused as to why these Scream 4 stills weren't released a while ago, especially around the time the home-media release, but I'm not going to complain. Here are four new stills of Aimee Teegarden in the opening scene of Scream 4. Enjoy..

Piranha 3DD: What Exactly Will We See?

Dimensions Films has always been very clever with their promotion, especially with their trailers which usually include scenes shot strictly for promotion, most notably in 2006's Black X-Mas and 2011's Scream 4, but even 2010's Piranha 3D found itself with many scenes found in the trailers and TV spots that never showed up in the final cut, which came as a huge disapointment to many fans.

I've recently found myself asking if they've done the same thing with their upcoming release Piranha 3DD.It's actually really hard to tell what will stay in the final cut of the film, and what exactly is just being used for promotion, especially when there's a huge lack of promotion.

Though I do suspect that the ending scene in the trailer featuring a piranha swimming inside of Danielle Panabaker's vagina has only been shot for promotion, especially if, which was revealed in the trailer as well, a piranha swims inside another character's vagina, because, lets fact it, no film director would be smart enough to include the same gag more than once, unless they actually want their film to be boring.

But as far as I can see, that's the only scene that looks like it's been shot for promotion, but I'm sure that once the film is released on June 1st, we will all fall victim to the misleading promotional footage.

Legends Never Die - Urban Legends: Final Cut Review

In this underrated sequel to 1998's "Urban Legend", a group of film students find themselves being stalked by a serial killer basing their murders off of, well, urban legends, as they struggle to complete their thesis films based on, get ready for it, urban legends!

I'm gonna make this review as brief as possible, but I honestly prefer this film more than the first and I will honestly never understand why this movie bombed at the box-office. Maybe it was the awful trailer? Lack of reference to the first film? Who knows, but this film deserves a lot more credit than it deserves. It's definitely not a grade-A slasher, but it's definitely not a grade-B slasher, either.

As far as the plot goes, it does sound and is a bit ridiculous, but that doesn't necessarily make this movie bad, in fact, I think that's what made this movie good. Filming a movie about urban legends while your cast and crew are being murdered based on urban legends? It's definitely something different for the slasher genre.

While the actors were a bit annoying, especially the lead, played by Jennifer Morrison, they really did a great job in most scenes. Jessica Cauffiel especially stuck out most. Her character, Sandra, was horribly bad at acting, and she played that character pretty damn good, making herself seem like a terrible actress which I found to be quite hilarious, actually.

The kills in this movie are actually some of my favorites in the slasher genre, including one very minor character's who falls victim to the kidney-heist urban legend but with a decapitation twist. Definitely the best scene in the entire movie.

I found the "twist" to be extremely confusing and I had to watch the film quite a few times to actually understand who did what, why one did something, etc. which was actually very frustrating, but once you actually understand everything, this movie is quite fun.

This movie definitely wasn't the worst sequel I've seen, and it definitely wasn't the best slasher, but it's definitely one of my favorites that's worthy of a watch. I'd give it a 3.5/5.

"No Body Is Safe" in new Piranha 3DD poster.

With a bit of a lack of promotion for the upcoming sequel to 2010's glorious Piranha, Dimensions Films is slowly starting to give this film a bit more recognition, just released the extended red-band trailer a few weeks ago. To add to the list, a third poster has been released and it reminds me of a modernized DVD cover for a cult 80's flick.

My Super Psycho Sweet 16: Part 3 - Review

As you all know, I'm a big fan of the My Super Psycho Sweet 16 series, and last night, MTV aired it's supposed final installment of the films, and let's just say the final one was the best one.

The movie doesn't give us much characterzation towards the newer characters, but enough to not feel sorry for when they die because they're that annoying. Especially that Nico kid, damn cholo. The characters were all very cliche to most slasher characters in some ways, as well.

The movie doesn't really lag as much as the first two did, with the first kill being in the film within the first 25 minutes, the whole film just kept hitting a higher climax as time went on. The first hour really killed off the obvious victims, leaving the other hour or so for the, what we thought already happened, climax.

The final scene was really deja vu to many 80's slashers, e.g. Happy Birthday To Me, one of the Sleep Away Camp Films, etc. I don't want to give too much away, but Alex has a huge grudge towards Skye, and Scott and Jed made sure that was clear.

Now, the movie did have it's flaws, but I only found there to be one, where the hell are Alex's grandparents on her sweet sixteen?! She was living with her grandparents, but there were no sign of them anywhere. But that's not a big deal because they could've easily been out for dinner or some place like that.

I don't want to give anything away, so I'll end the review by saying that this movie was my favorite of the three films, having the most annoying characters, the most clever, and gorey deaths, and fun twists, this movie is a very fun slasher that stays true the 80's elements that Part 1 lived by.

My Super Psycho Sweet 16 Part 1 + 2 Set For BluRay Release

According to the blu-ray website, the first two My Super Psycho Sweet 16 films are going to be released to BluRay combo pack including the DVD and digital copy of the films, as well.

While I'm not sure when they're planning to release these films to BluRay, I'm praying that they're going to be available for purchase in store, unlike the crappy amazon releases of the films, which can be bought here and here.

Check out Part 1 and Part 2 on the BluRay website for more information on the BluRay release of the films.

My Super Psycho Sweet 16: Part 3 Poster/Trailer Debut!

Last week, MTV gave us a glimpse at their upcoming sequel to their 2009 hit "My Super Psycho Sweet 16" by releasing a promotional poster and a trailer. While the poster looks decent, I'm not sure how I feel about the film itself.

Skye (Mcknight) prepares to leave for college in New York City in hopes of finally leaving her bloody past behind her. When she gets a ride with fellow freshman Sienna (Reed), they form an instant bond and Skye truly believes she could have a brighter future. But when Skye receives an unexpected call from her estranged little sister, Alex (Prout), she and Sienna decide to make a quick detour to Alex's house so Skye can say goodbye. Only when they arrive do they learn that it is the night of Alex's Sweet 16. As Skye knows, Sweet 16 parties tend to not go very well for these girls, and a night of terror begins again.

Two New Piranha 3DD Posters Swim Ashore!

While the lack of promotion for the sequel to the 2010 remake of Roger Corman's Piranha has kept us all in suspense, or me at at least, Dimensions Film is FINALLY giving us some more promotion.

After all of the fan-generated artwork for the film, it's hard to decide what is real, but the two posters released over the weekend have been confirmed to be official international posters!

The first poster is my personal favorite, while the second one kind of reminds me of something you'd see on a VHS box, which isn't a bad thing.

Hopefully we'll see a full-length trailer soon?

2 Headed Shark Attack: Reviewed!

Well, as you all know I've been watching the film 2 Headed Shark Attack for a very long time, since filming to be exact, and yesterday it was finally released. Of course I had to look at EVERY store I could to get my hands on this film, and luckily, Red Box had it.

My expectations for this film were a bit high, and everything I had hoped this movie would be, was. If that makes sense.

Let's start with the story line.. A semseter at sea with a bunch of college co-eds goes hay-wire when the ship sinks, but, luckily there's an island, or atolll, nearby so the co-eds and teachers take shelter there while the boat is being repaired. One enginerr's death later, the students soon realize that the atoll is sinking as well, and there's a two-headed shark lurking in the water. While trying to find ways to survive, the atoll is sinking, everyone is panicking, and the so on.

Evidently, this film had a great plot in my opinion. Kind of beats 2011's Shark Night 3D, in my opinion. The acting was pretty decent for the most part, while some of the minor characters kind of lacked, but, that didn't affect the film at all. The characters were very cliche, you had the nerd, badass hero-chick, wannabe hero-chick, dumb adults, and annoying extras, which made it fun to watch, over-all.

The special effects were hilariously great, if you ask me. With a combination of a silicone shark and CGI shark, the deaths were actually quite interesting. Some more realistic than others, though, I did giggle at most of them.

Now, what mainly caught my interest in this film is the fact that Brooke Hogan is in it, and I consider this to be her first serious film role considering Sand Sharks was nothing but a joke. This being her first film where she had a major role, I did expect her acting to be a bit "over-acted" but I was actually surprised at how well she did. As for Charlie O'Connell and Carmen Electra, the two other "main stars," well, their acting was pretty good, too. Charlie clearly over-powered Carmen, having more scenes than her didn't help, though.

I personally did enjoy this film, though it seemed to drag with all the "OMG, what do we do now?"-esque situations, but, the kick-ass ending totally made up for that.

I give this film a 7/10, while having a fun plot, decent special effects, and quality B-movie action, this film did have it's flaws, which I won't discuss because I don't want to give too much away.

If you're a fan of B-movies then you will love this, but, if you're a Jaws fanatic and you're expecting Speilberg quality, then give this film a pass.

Now, stop reading here if you DON'T want to be spoiled, because I'm going to discuss the last 10 or 15 minutes of the film here.

Still reading? Okay, well, the atoll finally sank and the last remaining, er, six or seven students are all stranded in the water, so the run into this wooden-shed-like structure and hide from the two-headed menace. The shark eventually breaks in so four of the seven or so decide to try fighting it off while Kate, Paul, and a girl who's name I think is Dana, run off into the water to try to think of a plan. When the sharks finish off the dumbasses, it comes for the final three. They conduct a plan to shove a gas tank into one of the heads and hopefully blow the shark up. Kate decides to lure the shark (which was oh-so very brave of her after a traumatic situation discussed earlier in the film) and of course, everything goes wrong. Kate almost dies, which actually made my freakout because Brooke's acting in the scene was the most intense in the movie, but anyway. Dana ends up as the wannabe hero who gets torn to shreds, but somehow still manages to ignite the gas tank and blow off one of the sharks head. Evidently, Kate and Paul blow the shark up using a left over boat and live happily ever after.

New "Super Psycho 3" Still Captures Alex's Not So Sweet Party

The official MSPS16 Facebook has released, yet, another still. Here's Alex (Kristen Prout) during her, what seems to be, party.

What do you think is going on in this scene? Maybe Alex is plotting her revenge! Find out when My Super Psycho Sweet 16" Part 3 hits MTV next Spring.

Jersey Shore Shark Attack?

You read that right.. SyFy attactehd themselves to another shark-related B-movie, assuming it's a parody of the MTV hit Jersey Shore and Shark Night, this movie could be quite interesting. While I don't know much about this film at the moment, it's going to be released on the SyFy channel sometime during June 2012.

Gym. Tan. Shark.

I'm pretty sure Jersey Shore's Vinny has a role in this, too. I'll keep you guys posted on this ridiculous film as more information is revealed.

The Unseen Paranormal Activity 3

Anyone else notice that the trailers and TV spots for Paranormal Activity 3 had completely different footage than the final cut of the film had? Most notably the "bloody Mary" scene with Katie and Kristie, the scene that was used in most promos.

The question isn't what was taken out, but, why was it taken out? My guess is because all the "scary" things that happened in PA2 were in the promotional stuff, making it less-scary, so instead, they've taken deleted or alternate scenes and used those for the trailers instead. They could've even done what Dimension Films does and just filmed scenes strcitly for promotion.

A scene non-existent in the films or trailers.
So, exactly what scenes were taken out? From the trailers, the only ones I can point out are the bloody Mary ones with Katie and Kristie, the scene where Katie and Kristie's mom throws water on Toby and it sizzles, and the scene where their mom is telling the family to get in the car and something throws her.

Oddly enough, a few stills were different than the film, too. The picture above shows a scene where Katie mocks Toby, and Kristie warns her, but Kristie's reflection doesn't pull a "Mirrors" move or anything like that, from what I remember, anyway.

So, have you guys noticed anything else missing? If so, slap us with a comment below!
