Brooke Hogan In Another Shark-Related Horror Movie?

Well, well, after doing some stalking of Brooke Hogan's Twitter, I noticed some tweets stating stuff along the lines of "on set," "new movie," etc, so, I looked at her Twitpics, and, I come across this;

Attached to this was a note stating "When being attacked by a silicone shark, you must use survival tactics." Well, something like that, anyway.

Ouch!

I agree with ya on that, Brooke! So, is she really shooting another movie? Or could it be re-shoots for her already filmed Horror flick, "Sand Sharks?" You tell me!

Scream: A Screenplay - Review!

So, one day while, while browsing Amazon on my iPod in Biology, I came across Scream: A Screenplay by Kevin Williamson. Silently fan-girling to myself, I put it in my wish list! Last week, my mom ordered it for me, finally! It came in a few days ago, and I read it in two sittings.

The script was slightly different than the movie, but nothing major. Just some alternate lines, and stuff. It's pretty cool. The script was written very well. I honestly did not want to put the book down during the first sitting! The first few pages, the big opening with Casey, was the most intense thing I've ever read. Especially, in a script. The characters are described very well. The scenery is very descriptive. The kills were A+

Honestly, I think y'all should buy it. It's such a great, intense read. If you liked the movie, you'll definitely love the script. Buy it here!

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre - 1974 VS 2003

Well, I'm going to start doing a Original VS Remake article about everyday, and, with the help of my friend, I'm going to kick it off with Texas Chain Saw Massacre!

So, let's compare the movie, shall we?

Let's start off with leading ladies, Sally (Marilyn Burns) or Erin (Jessica Biel).

Honestly, I couldn't stand Sally in the beginning, she was way too bitch, in my opinion. Pam would've been a better lead, if you ask me. Erin, on the other hand, was also a bitch, but a bitch in a way that made you like her because she was entertaining with her bitchiness. So the remake wins this category.

The infamous hitchhiker scenes... which one was better?

The original one was better, hands down. I liked the weird, creeper-vibe that the original hitchhiker gave as opposed to the sympathetic vibe the remake hitchhike gave. The fact that she blew her head off in the car kinda killed it for me. But, the hitchhiker in the original was A+. I love the part where he takes a picture of everyone then burns it, it makes you wonder, "What the hell is this guy's problem?" but think he's great, at the same time, plus he has more than one scene in the movie, and makes it to the sequel, which he was even creeper in. You go, hitchhiker!

Which Leatherface was better?

In my opinion, they're both equally great. I loved everything about the original, especially all the noises he made and awkward thing he did while he was killing everyone. But, I loved how creepy and mysterious he was in the remake, like, how he didn't do anything but focus on one thing while he was doing whatever he was doing. So, I guess they both win this one.

Which movie did you like more?

The original, hands down. It was by far the scariest Texas Chain Saw ever. It gave me nightmares for the longest time when my mom rented it on VHS back when I was 8 or 9. Espcially Marilyn Burns' chase scene, so fucking intense. I still get scared when I watch that scene. Crazy shit. I didn't like all the awkward, misplaced, and un-needed sub-plots, I mean, what is up with the whole little kid with fucked up teeth thing? It just slowed the movie down a lot. It wasn't really scary, either. The chase scene, which should've been the most terrifying scene like in the original, was terrible. I just didn't like this movie, really. Original wins~

New "Shark Night 3D" Still Reveals Emotional Scene!

In this new still, from Chris Zylka, we see an emotional side of Maya (Alyssa Diaz), and intense side of Blake (Chris Zylka) and Nick (Dustin Milligan) or Gordon (Joel David Moore). 

Official Plot synopsis "A weekend at a lake house in the Louisiana Gulf turns into a nightmare for seven vacationers as they are subjected to fresh-water shark attacks."

Final Destination 5 - Review

Well, I saw Final Destination 5 with my cousin and friend, and I was the only one who was really excited to see it, because I've been waiting to see it for two years. But, I was kind of disappointed.

The movie wasn't "darker" as promised, unless they're just saying that because Tony Todd is back in a few scenes. Those scenes aren't "dark" at all, in my opinion. The movie went by way too fast, also. Like, there wasn't really anything in between the death scenes to even the movie out. It was just accident > aftermath > death> aftermath > character development > death > death > death.. etc.

Now, don't read this paragraph unless you want the movie to be spoiled.  The ending went by way too quick. Yes, it is a prequel to the first. Sam and Molly end up on the doomed Flight 180, rah-rah. But, there's not a lot of evidence that shows that except Sam's plane ticket stub which was shown for a short 5 seconds, maybe.  But, most people wouldn't have caught that, hell, my cousin wouldn't have unless I said something. Though, true fans of the series should recognize the very brief clips of the original cast from the first getting off the plane. :-----)

Anyway, my favorite scene in this movie is the most intense and suspenseful one, Candice's death.  So, Candice is this big shot in the gymnastics scene, so she practices basically daily. Anyway, after a bunch of things leading up to her death, someone steps on nail that falls from the fan, they fall over and knock a bowl of chalk over which blows into a portable fan causing Candice to not be able to see what she's doing, she swings off the bar and ends up in a deadly position, breaking her spine and leg. Most impact-ful death in the series, in my opinion.

The opening accident was really good, I think it was the shortest in the series, which is okay because it's still really good. The deaths were really good, and original. They weren't really focused on the gore-factor as opposed to the creativity and realism of the deaths.

The deaths in the movie were really.. original.. but, I didn't like most of them. There wasn't any suspense or build-up in them like in the first, but, they were still enjoyable. The trailers gave absolutely nothing away, like everyone assumed. They were all different than what was "spoiled," which was a great surprise.

So, all-in-all, the movie was a pretty good film, and I'd definitely check it out while it's still in theaters.

By the way, I got the holographic Final Destination 5 teaser poster for free, and I bought an FD5 T-shirt and lanyard from San Diego Comic Con. I'll post pictures when they merch comes in!

Are Remakes Killing Or Saving The Horror Genre?

It seems that the only Horror films big movie companies are green-lighting are remakes. Though, a lot of these movies cash in big at the box-office, (e.g Prom Night, Friday The 13th, A Nightmare On Elm Street, etc.) are these movies any good?

In my opinion, most remakes suck. But, I will admit, I do have a few favorites, but, those are the most original, in my opinion, any. I usually catch all  Horror flicks when they're released into theaters, and I usually regret it, too. But, I did like Rob Zombie's Halloween and Michael Bay's Friday The 13th, The Stepfather wasn't too bad, either..

So, what's with this lack of originality? Carrie and Texas Chainsaw Massacre are being re-made, again! In my opinion, this is getting to be a bit ridiculous.

It seems that there's less-and-less Horror films being released as time goes by, because everyone is writing remakes and they're running out of films to remakes! This isn't helping the genre at all.

Personally, I don't mind watching a remake every now and then, but multiple ones in a year, c'mon, just stop, already.

Past remakes include The Amityville Horror, April Fools Day, Black Christmas, Carrie, Children of the Corn, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, Dracula (repeat offender), The Eye, The Fog, Frankenstein, Friday the 13th, Fright Night, Halloween, The Hills Have Eyes, The Hitcher, House of Wax, House on a Haunted Hill, The House on Sorority Row (as Sorority Row), I Spit on Your Grave, Last House On The Left, Let Me In, My Bloody Valentine, and so on. The list is a lot bigger, which is a sad thing.

The list of future remakes is even bigger, unfortunately. But, I won't go there.

So, what do y'all think? Are remakes destroying the Horror genre, or what?

Brooke Hogan New B-Movie Scream Queen?

Honestly, if this movie didn't have Brooke Hogan in it, I wouldn't have even given it a Google search, but, since Brooke is my future wife, I figured I'd do some healthy horror research. So, what are we to expect from this movie?

So, basically it's a cross between Jaws and Piranha II: The Spawning. Sounds pretty cool!

Brooke stated in a YouTube video that it's very funny to watch this computer generated shark eat these people and "don't take it seriously." She also said she thinks it'll be a hit for teens, I'm down! Brooke plays Sandy, a sexy, tough, bad-ass fighting off all these sharks, or so I've heard. 

Though, there isn't much known about this movie, Brooke told me (on Twitter) that she'd "hook me up" with all the details as soon as she gets them, until then, I say this movie will air on the SyFy channel sometime in September, and it's gonna be on hell of a movie. Final Destination 2 - Review

Final Destination 2.. what an odd movie.. in all honestly, I don't like it.

So here's what goes down, Kimberly is on her way to Florida with friends when she has a premonition of a pile-up killing a bunch of people and her friends. She escapes, and so do a few others, then death comes again to kill 'em all. Somewhere in this mess, Kimberly finds Clear, the lead female in the first, and gets help from her. All-in-all, this movie wasn't good.

The problem with this movie is the crappy writing and lack of good dialogue. Though, I like that fact that this movie is completely connected to the first, A+ for that.

The movie starts off great, from the credits, to the big pile-up, but afterwards it slowly turns into a poorly-written film with a bad-acting cast. The characters weren't like-able, at all. They were all the same, with one difference in each of them. They're all assholes except one is a cop, another a work-aholic, another a druggie, another a low-life, another a typical teenager, and so on. I just felt no sympathy for any of these characters.

Aside from the bad acting and awful writing, the special effects and kills were pretty good. The kills were very original, which is definitely an A+ in my book. The special effects were great, too. Especially in the opening accident. The car stunts were great.

Now, I really don't have a favorite scene, but, one scene I do like a lot is Nora's death. While in an elevator, Officer Burke, a cop, and escape-ee from the pile-up, calls Nora to warn her about a sign that might cause her death. She freaks out and tries running out of the elevator only to get her hair caught on some hook-like object another man in the elevator has. The elevator doors shut, and eventually she gets decapitated. Simple, yet, original.

My over-all opinion on this movie is that it's the worst in the franchise, and I'd only see it if you're a die-hard horror or Final Destination fan.

Final Destination - Review

Starting today, I'm going to be reviewing the Final Destination series, starting with the first, and ending with the fifth. I re-watched the first one last night, not planning this review, so, it's pretty fresh in mind.

I remember the first time I watched Final Destination, I was about five or six, my brother, who was seven or eight, got it for Christmas on VHS and I decided to be a rebel and watch it. I don't remember my thoughts on it, but, I remember re-watching it when I was nine with my friend Tyler, we loved it. It became one of my favorites since.

Anyway, this movie is one of the greatest horror films of all time, in my opinion. Escaping death, finding it come back to try and kill you, and trying to escape it? It's great.

So, basically, Alex and a bunch of his senior classmates are going on a trip to Paris, while on the plane (as it's about to take off) Alex has a premonition, or dream, that the plane is going to explode, he freaks out and a bunch of his classmates get off. A few minutes after take-off, the plane explodes, like in his vision. Later on his classmates who got off begin dying, one-by-one, in 'accidental' ways, Alex, and his new friend, Clear, discover the pattern and try warning the others and look for ways to 'cheat' death. Sounds pretty cool, eh?

The movie starts off really great, with great character development that instantly makes you either love or hate the characters, which affects the amount of sympathy you feel when they die, which makes the movie insanely fun.

The deaths are pretty fun, too. There's a lot of tension and build-up before each one, which makes you wonder, when is this person going to die? How are they going to die? Are they even going to die? It's great.

The acting in the movie is A+
All the character's reactions to their surroundings is insanely believable, which is a great thing.

The special effects are done in a great way, the kills aren't very graphic, but, the ones that were had great make-up and such. The CGI was great, too.

Now, my favorite death in this movie has to be Terry's. She simply gets splattered by a bus. Sounds boring, but, it's not. You don't see it coming, at all, which makes it more fun. This is Terry's main scene, in the other's she only had one line, or none. But, in this one she flips out on Carter, her boyfriend, for 'beating the shit out of Alex,' after all is said and done, she turns to walk away and BAM a bus hits her. The only CGI I noticed in the entire movie, and it was done insanely well.

In general, this movie is great. It has a great plot, cast, kills, and special effects. Just about everything you need to make a good horror flick. Definitely worth checking out, if you haven't already.

Shark Night 3D; Worthy Knock-Off Of A 2010 B-Movie?

As September gets closer, I ask myself, Should I really go see Shark Night? My answer every time is .. hell yes!

The official synopsis reads "A weekend at a lake house in the Louisiana Gulf turns into a nightmare for seven vacationers as they are subjected to fresh-water shark attacks."


I'm down for any wild-animal-eating-hot-chicks'esque movie. The fact that the extremely talented Katharine McPhee is in it helps.

I read the script of this film, and it was decent. This movie definitely won't be a huge success at the box office, but it'll be a hit for teens, like me.

Basically, the sharks are robotic or some shit, and they were released to this lake by some locals so they could film their shark-related fates and put them online. Everyone dies except Sara Paxton, if I remeber correctly... all-in-all, the movie seems decent enough to go see in theaters, but, since it's PG-13, don't expect too much from it.

Do Movie Studios Reveal Too Much Spoilers?

Watching trailers and TV spots for Scream 4 and Final Destination 5, I've noticed that these studios are giving away too much, too soon. I knew that Jenny, Marnie, Olivia, Robbie, Rebecca and Deputy Hoss all died in Scream 4 just by watching the trailers! They also showed a clip of the killer holding the mask, revealing that they've been filming the murders! That twist was completely ruined, just for some publicity.

Knowing all the surprises when you're watching a movie makes watching the movie a lot less fun, because, you're not wondering what the surprises are, but, wondering when the surprises are going to happen, which, in all honesty, just sucks and ruins the movie.

I now have a dilemma, because of all the trailers, TV spots, and clips released by Warners Bros., I know who dies, and possibly when, in Final Destination 5. I even know the ending, thanks to a TV spot. Don't get me wrong, I'm still very excited to see the film, but, I'm not as excited as I could be. Why? Because the studio itself is spoiling the movie for it's fans.

So, am I the only one who's noticed that the studios are doing this? Or do I just pay too much attention to the movie itself? Tell me your thoughts! ~

3D In Horror Movies? Yay or Nay?

So, if you haven't noticed, there's been this 3D craze in the horror industry, I don't know if it's because 3D costs a few dollars extra, or just because these movie makers know a lot of people like 3D movies?

In 2009, My Bloody Valentine 3D started a new type of horror films: 3D

Though, I didn't see anything wrong with My Bloody Valentine 3D, after The Final Destination 3D came out that following August, I was getting sick of 3D horror films. Not the 3D in general, but, the awful quality in the 3D films. The special effects were terribly done with CGI. The blood looked like strawberry syrup, if that says something.

Fortunately or unfortunately, The Final Destination 3D spawned another sequel... in 3D.. but, since it hasn't been released, I won't criticize it.

In 2010, we got the 3D remake of the 70's B-movie Piranha, while the special effects weren't completely bad, the movie was clearly meant to be seen in 3D. Watching the 2D version at home, the special effects were very cartoon-ish, which was a big let down.

Well, in my opinion, 3D movies aren't worth forking out the extra $2.00 because the camera's quality looks awful, the special effects are terrible, and most of them are meant to be seen in 3D, otherwise the movie sucks.

Upcoming 3D horror flicks include Shark Night 3D, Piranha 3DD, and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre 3D (A remake, not a sequel).

This Generation's Scream Queen?

Well, in my last post I talked about the scream queen of the 00's, which lead me to wonder who this generation's scream queen is going to be?

Contestant number one - Julianna Guill.

Known as the girl with "perfect nipple placement" in 2009's remake of Friday The 13th, Julianna Guill blew me away, not only with her great looks, but, her great acting. Friday The 13th was her first role in a horror movie, and she definitely didn't show it, which is more than a great thing.

Guill has a small resume in the acting field, starring in films such as My Super Psycho Sweet 16 and Altitude, she also has made appearances in other films. To check 'em out click here!


Contestant number 2 - Emma Bell.

Making her first appearance in a horror'esque film, "Frozen," something about Emma caught my eye. The fact that she could, believably, pull off being stuck on a ski-lift for a few days was pretty sweet.

 Then, I saw her in TV's "The Walking Dead" and was convinced if she keeps appearing in horror'esque movies and shows, she's going to have a very successful acting career. Catch her in Final Destination 5 this Friday and click here to see her compelte filmography!

Contestant number 3 - Marielle Jaffe

Okay, she's only been in one Horror movie, but, her small role of Olivia Morris in Scream 4 showed a lot of potential in this girl.

If Marielle Jaffe does decide to continue acting, I can definitely see her being in many more horror flicks, and I'd watch every single one of them.

Well, these girls are the only ones that have caught my eye, so far, but, after a few horror movies come out, I'm sure I'll be posting a second part of this.. so, who do you think would make a better scream queen?

So, Who's Deserves This Generation's 'Scream Queen' Title?

Well, there's always that one actress who is in a bunch of Horror movies, and she usually becomes known as a "scream queen." Jamie Lee Curtis is the first scream queen, in my opinion. With titles such as Halloween, Terror Train, Prom Night and even The Fog, she definitely deserves that title.

But, a question I've asked myself a lot is "who's my generations scream queen?"

Well, in my opinion it's Crystal Lowe, known for her supporting roles in Final Destination 3 and 2006's Black Christmas.

Crystal also has great roles in movies such as Children of the Corn: Revelations, Wrong Turn 2: Dead End, and Yeti: Curse of the Snow Demon, all of which are very cheesy B-movies.

She has all the elements of what I think makes a scream queen; great looks, great acting, and great roles in films.

My favorite movie she was in definitely is Children of the Corn, one of her first movies.
Though, I've only seen that movie once, in sixth grade, I remember Crystal's role pretty well, and her hilarious fate.

While taking a bath, one of the children from the corn (see what I did there?) walks into her bathroom and drops these weird, demon seeds into her bathtub resulting in corn growing in the tub, and drowning her, while her asshole of a neighbor is pounding on her wall telling her to 'shut the fuck up' as she screams. Instant classic.
